August and September Round-Up
Well here it is October already. (Only 22 more days until I party like it’s my birthday!) With some vacation time and some schedule changes I didn’t have time to post the August round-up so now you get a two-for-one.
The biggest change that came in August was that I start leading the children’s ministry at our church after the current director moved to Portland. Right now it’s volunteer work, but we are all praying about whether or not it’s the right fit for the church to hire me on to continue in that roll. The kids are having a lot of fun with our new Spy Academy theme, and are learning how to share the Gospel message with others at the same time.
I head up the prayer team for my Client Forever Changed International. In August it was our turn to be mentioned in the blog. Read : We Love Our Prayer Team
August was also time for sponsor updates on FCI. I posted all the new artwork, videos, pictures and status updates for the kids and then let the sponsors know they are ready. The best part is I get to see all the updates! We do sponsor one of the orphans however, her name is Nayeli Soto. If you are interested in helping orphans I encourage you to join us in sponsoring Nayeli and maybe together we can get her to 100%. (Note the more children at 100% the more the can afford to expand and have more children come into the loving and caring environment of Dorie’s Promise Guatemala.)
I wrote a blog for my Clear Expectations website and will shortly have part two posted as well. Read : If you feed it…
Also since this year is Marvel’s 75th anniversary I wrote a piece on my favorite Marvel title for my book blog. Read : 7.5 Best Fantastic Four Covers to Celebrate Marvel’s 75th Anniversary
September marked the end of the estate planning series I put together for our local library. The once a month series kick-off in June with a presentation by local attorney Dave Beckham and ended in September with a Q&A with a panel of experts. I’m moderating the panel in the picture on the right. (Left to right Arwen McGilvra Library Board/Moderator, James Dufour Funeral Home Director, Don David Investment Planning, John Borden CPA, Dave Beckham Attorney.)
At the end of September I spoke at the Oregon Women in Timber annual meeting. The talk titled “Fact or Fiction? Filtering Out the Bad Information on Social Media” is also on my blog.
I also finished a new website for Love INC of Linn County. They are a great local non-profit that does gap ministries to literally bridge the gap between needs in the community and people in the church. Their website hadn’t been updated in a decade (see below) and needed a revamp and a fresh new look.
One last item for this round-up is this article the dispells myths about Facebook’s messanger app. Since I am still seeing people panicking over nothing when it comes to the app it’s worth the share. From the New York Post 5 myths about Facebook’s Messenger app.
FYI this is my 100th blog post for The Tech Chef!!!
